Review:

(By the way, great trailer. Captures everything in the book.)

I've only read one of Amanda Hocking's work before Wake and that is Switched, it was enough to make me fall in love with her writing. So, i was obviously going to read Wake and it left me with a mixture of feelings.

The beginning of the book really keep your head into the book. After a while the pace went steady and i like it. One thing i was surprised about the book was that it was in third person perspective because i was used to Amanda Hocking's first person perspective from Switched but i got the hang of it after a few chapters. One of the thing that i really liked about the book was about the history and explanation behind the girls (Penn, Thea and Lexi) being a siren. What did make me down was the ending. I knew it was coming and it was really predictable.

The characters i feel the same about as well. They didn't have much depth but i did love the sister relationship between Gemma and Harper. Harper looks after her sister and Gemma is the easy going on. I also loved looking through both of their perspectives. Theres also another good side of the book than the history behind the sirens. There's not only one relationship in the book but two! One for Gemma and one for Harper. Gemma and Alex are really together. Harper and Daniel are not really relationship but you can feel the sparks in the paper. I have to say my favorite couple is Harper and Daniel.

In conclusion, Wake was a enjoyable read. I loved the back story and the relationships. On the other hand, it also gave me a negative view of it because the characters didn't have much depth and the ending was predictable (but i'll still be reading Lullaby.)

  1. I'm sorry this fell a bit flat for you! I really dislike when characters are so flat and when the ending is predictable. :/ However the back story sounds so intriguing, and I'm definitely liking the sound of the character relationships, especially the sibling relationship.

Fabulous review! I'll have to get my hands on a copy of this book. <3

  2. I hate when book are son what predictable in their plot lines. I've had that before. Though Amanda Hocking is one of my favourite authors as well. I loved Switched! Wake has been on my list for ages! Glad you enjoyed it overall. Lovely review! :-)

  3. Despite the flaws, I'm glad to hear you will still read the next book. I've heard pretty good things about this book overall, so I'm quite curious about it. I have a copy somewhere! Great review. :)

  4. I'm glad you found this an enjoyable read. I get really put off by the fact that the plot is predictable. But with a good back story, I might read it.

  5. I've actually never read Amanda Hocking - I avoided this one because it looked like another mermaid book. Sirens sounds better, as long as they're not evil. :) I'll be interested in hearing what you think of the second book though. If that one ends up being predictable, then it's probably not a series I'll want to start. Loved hearing your thoughts!!
